Media Spotlights

Behind the Green Door (BTGD), one of the brightest-burning music and cultural beacons in the Singaporean nightlife ecosystem has officially opened its doors.

After eight months of gathering momentum with its uniquely next-level slate of music programming that has ushered top-tier international talent to our shores in the form of AHADADREAM, Djibril Cissé, Jarreau Vandal and Zakes Bantwini, and unfurling its culture-celebrating ethos via its community-affirming partnerships with Singaporean needle-movers such as YUNG RAJA’s Dosa Taco establishment The Maha Co, the venue is now ready to extend its heady charms to the wider public.

Unlike commercial venues operating in the after-hours space in Singapore, BTGD is more than a mere club, watering hole, or events space. Helmed by Joshua Pillai, a bona fide titan of the more cutting-edge sectors of Singaporean nightlife, BTGD is a multifaceted proposition that offers a distinctly curated approach to the three pillars that are the foundation of an exquisitely great time: Good music, good drinks and good vibes. In that regard, Pillai assures discerning thrill-seekers that BTGD offers “something different in the form of an alternative approach” to a night out in Singapore.

Once the visitor passes the green door, they are transported to a space as embracing as it is enticingly rippling with creative energy. New York industrial chic collides dashingly with tasteful slashes of animal print-streaked walls and lush green foliage suspended from the ceiling and orbiting the dance floor, all of which is illuminated by a gorgeously kaleidoscopic array of LED lights. Swept into its intimacy and allure, it is not difficult for the visitor to feel comfortably at home, and more crucially, a sense of belonging.

As Joshua surmises, “As much as BTGD is not over-the-top, we are a premium brand with the highest standards of quality – and we embrace all.”

BTGD’s music policy is another area which situates it as an outstanding outlier in the local clubscape. Under Music Director James Selva’s stewardship, it is the only club here to anchor Afro-house as a Friday-night pillar while being a fount of Baile edits, Afrobeats, Amapiano, UK Garage, R&B, House and Hip-hop on respectively designated nights. “We want to be the lens through which people experience globally boundary-pushing sounds in Singapore”, says Joshua, affirming BTGD’s uncompromising stance as an ambassador for the best of global dance culture here.

Weekly Music Programming

Wednesdays:The mid-week experience at BTGD offers a dynamic blend of lounge music, setting the tone for the evening with a mix of jazz, funk, Balearic, and world music. This varied soundscape provides the perfect backdrop to unwind after office hours.

Thursdays:Thursday at BTGD is one for the ladies—Sips & Drips, an exciting Ladies Night offers complimentary entry for all our girlfriends. With a soundtrack that blends hip hop, amapiano, and afro beats, it’s the ultimate girls’ night out.

Fridays:Fridays are all about keeping the crowd moving the ever-evolving Afro House. Expect sets that feature deep, soulful rhythms, bouncy, high-energy grooves, and melodic, spiritual soundscapes. Whether it's the heavy, tribal percussion from the likes of Boddhi Satva, or the vibrant and uplifting sounds from rising talents like AWEN, each performance guarantees a dynamic, multi-faceted Afro House experience.

Saturdays:The weekend reaches its peak with a celebration of forward-thinking electronic music, featuring electrifying House & Tech House sets. From pulsating tech house beats that build intensity, to warm, soul-infused house melodies that bring waves of euphoria, each set pulls you deeper into the groove.

Proof that people are an integral aspect of the health of a space, BTGD is a shrine to communal efforts to uplift culture. Besides being a shared canvas for international acts and local heavy-hitters alike, the space also honours the rich tapestry of Singaporean trail-blasters with their own transformative narratives. Collaborating as it does with local collectives such as GrooveTop, Tropika Global, .WAV(Y), Manifest and Sivilian Affairs & Soul Collective, the club also recently linked arms with Singaporean rapper and songwriter, YUNG RAJA, and has added Dosa Tacos to its menu, affirming its essence as the connective tissue between bar-raising champions of culture.

Collaboration with The Maha Co.—introducing the world’s first dosa tacos

The BTGD canvas also applies to culinary excellence of a distinctly local flavour and swagger. Recently, the club announced a collaboration with local rapper and songwriter, YUNG RAJA’s Dosa Taco concept The Maha Co (maha meaning great in Sanskrit), available Wednesdays to Fridays, 7pm - 10pm

The brand has blazed a trail in the fast-casual dining space for its non-pretentious approach to ingenious cultures-bridging cuisine. Inspired by the dosa recipe passed down from his grandmother to his mother, YUNG RAJA decided to share his cross-generational family secret with the world, tweaking the size of the dosas to taco-sized portions and using them in a globally unprecedented way to carry a torch for South Indian flavours. Each dosa is traditionally made with rice that is hand-soaked and fermented overnight, ensuring authentic, natural variation in texture—no homogeneity here. These gluten-free dosas perfectly complement the robustly spice-forward tacos, which include Masala Prawn ($12.90 SGD), Lamb Rendang ($12.90 SGD), Crispy Chicken ($11.90 SGD), and Crackling Roast Pork ($12.90 SGD)—a playful nod to Mexico’s pulled pork.

Rounding off the experience is a line-up of cocktails artfully created by the BTGD bar team in Singapore and Bali, each showcasing a bold new take on classic flavours. The Spiced Route Gimlet ($28 SGD) begins with a crisp, herbaceous blend of gin, lime, and basil, refreshing with every sharp sip. Transitioning into the complex and luxurious Harlem Shake Fizz ($28 SGD), rosemary gin and spiced coconut are fused with the creamy warmth of burnt milk and white chocolate, balancing the floral notes with a tang of fresh lemon. Finally, Tales Of Colada ($28 SGD)  transports you to a tropical paradise, where pineapple tequila meets smoky agave, complemented by coconut water and a toasted chocolate foam, with a touch of sea salt adding a unique depth to the velvety finish.

This sensory journey through the cultural formats of food & beverage is a joint presentation by BTGD and The Maha Co., two drivers of culture making moves in Singapore that resound throughout the globe, who share a staunch belief in the power of bringing people together through their path-lighting endeavours.

A good club is not a one-and-done deal. It needs continuous hard work and fine-tuning to ensure that it can deliver on all the fronts it promises to deliver on. When boiled down to its essence, the BTGD guarantee is that its team is singularly dedicated to elevating the scene by leading by example.
